State of the Tank: (cont.) |
life is to raise not worrying about things to an art form. Then I can give it a cool Oriental name and go back to Hollywood, get the stars and wanna-bees hooked on it, and make a jillion dollars.
This is also the reason there will probably not be an update next month: I'll be gone for most, if not all, of the month of March. I'll still be answering my emails though so please stay in touch. |

Happy springtime first of all…although the way the updates on this site have been going lately, there may be either four feet of snow or Fourth of July fireworks going on outside your window at the moment. I also wouldn’t bet the farm that it’s still 2005 either. But whatever month or year it is, I hope all is well with you, your family, and of course your tank(s). As I believe I mentioned last Feb., I didn’t do an update for March because I spent most of the month traveling about the country shooting wildflowers everywhere from Death Valley, CA to Bastrop, TX, which is a bit SE of Austin. Death Valley was especially spectacular in that the unusually heavy rains SoCal received this year brought about a once-in-a-lifetime (literally!) wildflower bloom that transformed the normally earth toned desertscape into a jaw dropping riot of color. They also created a huge lake on what was usually a baking desert salt flat in the middle of Badwater; the traditionally heralded “lowest point in the U.S.” at 262 feet below |

sea level. People were kayaking on it! Surreal doesn’t begin to describe what a bizarre scene it was.
Otherwise, the trip was pretty uneventful although I did manage to get caught up in one of those small town parades…you know the ones that feature every operating piece of fire fighting equipment in the county, the VFW, and Miss Local ‘Mah Daddy’s The Sheriff’ Beauty Queen being pulled on some platform by a huge tractor which occasionally belches smoke in her face? And before you think I’m about to rip on this kind of stuff, please think again. I absolutely LOVE small town America and events like that are just one of the reasons why. Tradition, baby. I’ll take that over some big city, dot com-sponsored trendfest any day…unless that event happens in New Orleans (Note to webguy: Please remember to edit that part out. The wife has begun reading these updates and my recalling anything to do with New Orleans can cause serious problems. Again, do NOT by any means leave New Orleans talk in this update, especially if I mention Venise or the ‘cab ride’. Thanks. [‘You’re welcome’---Webguy who makes his living through big city, dot com sponsored trendfests]).
But enough dry land stuff; on to the reef keeping! Not a heck of a lot went on in March, obviously. Ray did his usual great job in maintaining the tank and I (hopefully) made things a little easier for him by not |
