State of the Tank: (cont.) |
|
What? I haven’t mentioned my big sump and skimmer swap? Then first, I guess I ought to show you this and this . And now that you’re brought up to speed, guess what? There’s going to be a big sump and skimmer swap. We’re planning to do the actual work early next month when means all the details should be chronicled on this site, say, by the year 2010. The sump, by the way, was custom built by Barr Aquatic Systems barraquatic.com and the skimmer, a dual Beckett MR-7, comes from MyReef Creations myreefcreations.com. I’d like to thank Brent and Andy respectively for their work and assistance. By the way, those objects lying on top of the sump are one of my filter socks (the sump was designed to utilize FOUR!) and a sponge pad to further reduce any large particulate matter.
Now, the system we’ll be replacing looks like this so obviously this will not only be quite a bit of work, but so the tank itself won’t be down too long, it will require planning, speed, and the pinpoint timing of a Mission: Impossible task force. Remember this just in case you never hear from me again.
But that seems to be all for this go-round so until next month, when I’m sure there’ll be much to talk about, I’ll be seeing you. |

Well, once again overestimating the DIY prowess of myself and my ‘dream team’, I had fully expected to give you a report on my new sump and skimmer swap this month. Unfortunately, both sump and skimmer are still in my garage. As for the team’s whereabouts, right now I’d say they are wherever the beer is cold and the conversation regarding how paranoid I am is hot. But, it’s not as if we haven’t been working at all. And I even take responsibility that some…some of the delays have been my fault. However, due to the timing involved in successfully making this swap, I refuse to let it go forward until EVERY step has been dry run, every part we may even possibly need is here, and everything that could go wrong has been thoroughly discussed and its solution already planned for. Now I ask you, is that so wrong? Well, to hear some of the guys around here complain, you’d certainly think it was. Then when I try to tell them I just want things to go smoothly, they |
