"This
is another one of the elder statesmen of my reef, having
been sent to me from California by my old friends at
Tis/Reef Systems. Once placed here at the very top
of the water column more than four years ago, it has
never been moved. Now, one would think a coral this
old under this much light would've grown a lot more
than it's present 6" (check snail in image for
scale) which MAY be up from the 4" it was when
I got it. I don't really have an answer to that. It's
surely never been damaged or 'sick'. And yet all it
does is very slowly and quietly encrust the rocks around
it as if it doesn't want to disturb anything. But,
to paraphrase a saying here; don't take it's meekness
for weakness. If you look carefully at the image, you
can see this coral is just covered in sweepers and
according to the books, they're fairly powerful. It
just chooses not to use them. How...in-human." |
